PHOENIX — Chandler Police K9 Benzo’s bullet- and stab-protective vest has arrived.

The department announced in September that nonprofit Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., would be providing the vest, thanks to a donation from Renee Thomas of Chandler.

The vest, which weighs about 5 pounds and is worth between about $1,700 and $2,300, took about 10 weeks to be delivered.

It is embroidered with the message “Honoring those who served and sacrificed.”

The nonprofit has provided more than 3,100 K9 vests since 2009.

Any dogs older than 20 months that are actively employed by U.S. law enforcement are eligible for the donation program.

We want to hear from you.
