PHOENIX — A 21-year-old man on Wednesday was found guilty of murdering a teenage girl in a drive-by shooting in Phoenix three years ago.
Jason Lindsey was found guilty on charges of first-degree murder, drive-by shooting and aggravated assault.
“Although witnesses and many directly involved in the incident were uncooperative, prosecutors refused to accept anything less than justice for the victim in this case who had her life cut short by the dangerous and deadly actions of the defendant,” Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery said in a statement.
Lindsey was on trial for shooting and killing 16-year-old Niani Rayshawn Allen in 2015.
Allen died shortly after she was shot while she was riding in a car with three other passengers near 67th Avenue and Broadway Road.
Lindsey was one of six people in the vehicle from which shots were fired.
Police said Lindsey admitted to shooting at the sedan, but denied that he was trying to hurt anyone inside.
Detectives said the shooting started as a fight between teenagers as they left a basketball game at Sierra Linda High School.
Sentencing was set for Jan. 7.
