PHOENIX — National gym chain LA Fitness has planned large-scale makeovers at 21 of its locations in metro Phoenix and expected the work to be finished by the middle of next year.
AZ Big Media recently reported that the company estimated the renovations would cost about $13.6 million.
The face lift coincides with the introduction of a specialized workout that will be offered at only certain locations, including the club at 33rd Street and Bell Road in Phoenix. That site, which launched the program in early November, was only the second in the country to have the high-intensity interval training.
The chain operates 43 clubs in Arizona. The program was figured into the plans for a new site that was scheduled to open on Higley Road near Loop 202 in Gilbert halfway through 2019.
A club in Mesa at Power and McDowell roads was listed as being closed this week for remodeling and reopening Dec. 6.
“As a fitness-conscious community, it only makes sense that some of our Arizona locations are set to be among the first in the nation to debut our new look and introduce our newest fitness program, HIIT by LAF,” Dion Gentile, a regional vice president for the chain, told the Phoenix publication.
Five years ago, the company sunk $4 million into remodeling several of its Valley facilities and two in Tucson.
