PHOENIX — A deputy with the U.S. Marshals Service taking part in a fugitive investigation shot and killed a 71-year-old suspect who pointed a gun at another deputy in north Phoenix on Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Three marshals were attempting to contact the man, later identified as Craig Allen, at a residence in the area of Second Street and Mountain View Road, near Sunnyslope High School, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Allen was in the backyard when he pointed a handgun at the supervisory deputy marshal, police said. An accompanying deputy marshal shot the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers were injured during the incident.
Phoenix police reported to the scene at around 10:45 a.m., after the shooting, and took the lead on the investigation.
Allen was wanted for probation violation in Texas in connection to a January arrest for mail fraud.
