PHOENIX — Arizonans who are looking to give back ahead of Thanksgiving can easily do so by dropping off a turkey or other dinner items at St. Mary’s Food Bank through Wednesday.
The Phoenix-based organization kicked off its 25th annual holiday food distribution on Monday with the goal of providing 12,000 Valley families with a Thanksgiving meal — complete with a turkey.
Food bank spokesman Jerry Brown told KTAR News 92.3 FM that the organization is expected to give out 4,000 meals each day of the distribution.
Brown said the holiday season is the busiest time of the year for St. Mary’s Food Bank, but that the more than 500 volunteers are in good spirits during the busy turkey drive.
The group is about 1,400 turkeys short of its goal this year, Brown added.
Anyone who would like to contribute to the cause can drop off a turkey at the organization’s warehouse near 31st Avenue and Thomas Road in Phoenix.
The group is accepting food donations — including turkeys and non-perishables — until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
To avoid the crowds of people receiving food, Brown said those looking to drop off food items can access the warehouse west from Interstate 17 and Thomas Road.
