PHOENIX — Authorities on Wednesday identified the man fatally shot a day earlier by police after a car chase that stretched from Phoenix to Glendale.

Timothy Odell Leon, 24, was armed with a handgun and was not complying with commands when three Phoenix Police officers opened fire on him, according to a Glendale Police Department press release.

Leon was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers or citizens were hurt.

It was the fifth armed robbery in five days involving Leon, police said.

Three of the incidents were carjackings during which Leon fired a handgun. He struck a victim in one of the shootings.

The chase started Tuesday after officers responded to an armed robbery call near 32nd Street and Thomas Road at 2:40 p.m.

Leon fled in a car that had been carjacked a few days earlier.

Helicopters from several TV stations eventually started following the incident and broadcast live streams of the chase online.

The chase ended and the shooting occurred outside an apartment complex near 64th Drive and Bethany Home Road in Glendale.

Glendale Police responded to the scene after the shooting and is handling the investigation.

“It was extremely imperative that officers were able to encounter him and ensure that he didn’t victimize another person within this Valley,” Glendale Police Officer Tiffany Smith said during a press conference Tuesday night.
