PHOENIX — If you’re a retiree looking to travel on a responsible budget, Phoenix is the place for you.

Smart Advisor ranked Phoenix as the second-best city for retirees with wanderlust, losing out to only Las Vegas.

Phoenix earned a score of 92.1 on 11 metrics, including international flights, the number of domestic flights, senior income tax rate and property crime rate.

Phoenix was ranked so highly because of its affordability.

According to Smart Advisor, the average fare for a domestic flight out of Phoenix was only about $236 in 2017, less than most major cities.

Phoenix also ranks in the top 25 nationally for number of available international and domestic flights, which offers lots of flight options.

From the study:

One of the most popular places in the country for moving retirees takes second. If you are a senior who plans on taking one or two trips per month, you will want to make sure you live somewhere with affordable tickets. Phoenix has you covered on that metric.

Dallas, Houston and Fort Worth filled out the top five, respectively.

Chicago, Philadelphia, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale and Salt Lake City rounded out the top 10.

We want to hear from you.
