PHOENIX – Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport was named the best airport in the United States by a prominent travel website.
The Points Guy, which publishes travel advice, unveiled its Best and Worst Airports of 2018 lists Thursday.
The website used 2017 data from sources such as the Department of Transportation and third-party databases to rank the 30 busiest airports in the country, breaking things down into three categories.
Sky Harbor wasn’t lauded for being fancy, but it got high marks for being easy to get to and its on-time record for flights, things that really matter to travelers.

The Phoenix airport ranked second in the category of accessibility, fourth in timeliness and 15th in amenities.
The article accompanying the list summed it up in with what might be considered a backhanded compliment: “Taken together, PHX arguably won not necessarily by coming in first anywhere, but by not having any crippling flaws.”
Salt Lake City International and Portland International followed Sky Harbor at the top of the list, while New York’s John F. Kennedy International brought up the rear.
The No. 1 achievement was a repeat for Sky Harbor, which also topped the list the last time The Points Guy published airport rankings in 2016.
