PHOENIX — The Democratic Party has officially taken over the U.S. House of Representatives and Republicans are already anticipating that lawmakers will pursue impeachment of President Donald Trump.

U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona, who easily won his re-election bid on Tuesday over Democrat Joan Greene with 59 percent of the vote, said he expects Democrats to take the impeachment or investigation route against the president.

“Your new Financial Services Committee chairman, Maxine Waters, has already said she’s going to press it, Al Green from Texas — yeah, they’re all in on that still,” Biggs told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Arizona’s Morning News on Wednesday.

According to The Washington Post, House Democrats are prepared to open investigations against Trump, but worry that attempting to remove him from office could “create peril in 2020 for lawmakers who represent districts the president carried in his first bid.”

In an early morning tweet on Wednesday, Trump vowed to investigate Democrats for “all of the leaks of Classified Information” if they investigate at the House level.

Biggs said he believes the Democrats will pursue investigations against the president because they will not be able to pass any sort of meaningful legislation.

“Whether it’s the Ways and Means Committee, Adam Schiff of the intelligence committee — they want to open up a mess of investigations because they really can’t do much either,” Biggs said.

“They can’t get any real legislation through because everything will get stopped in the Senate or, if it’s anti-Trump agenda legislation, it’ll get vetoed,” he added.

“Not only (House Minority Speaker) Nancy Pelosi, but most of the new committee chairmen that’ll be there, they have indicted seriously their opposition to this president and they want to tear him apart in anyway they can.”
