Tribal casinos add $27M to Arizona coffers for second fiscal quarter

PHOENIX – Arizona casinos run by Native American tribes paid nearly $27 million to the state during the first three months of the 2019 budget year.
The Arizona Department of Gaming recently announced $26.9 million in revenue for the quarter ending Sept. 30 went up by 2 percent from the same quarter a year ago.
It was the seventh straight increase in state receipts, according to the report released Nov. 2.
The department said 88 percent of the tribal contribution were distributed directly to the state’s Benefits Fund.
The bulk of the contributions were distributed to the instructional improvement fund. For the second quarter, that amounted to $13,395,669.
Other money goes to emergency services, wildlife conservation and tourism.
Cities, towns and counties also get a share.
The state received more than $94 million in the most recent budget year. Cities, counties and towns got more than $12 million.
Department director Daniel Bergin said in a press release that growth was “a strong reflection of our state’s healthy economy.”
