PARIS (AP) – Hundreds of police officers moved in early Tuesday morning to net dozens of members of a criminal gang in eastern France who were importing drugs and operating an illegal immigration ring.
Sebastien Bouche, a spokesman for the local government, said 39 Albanians and Kosovars were arrested in the sting. He said house searches and the filing of charges were likely to follow.
The border police of the Haut-Rhin prefecture, which borders Germany and Switzerland, led the operation of 250 police officers, including members of elite SWAT teams. German police were involved in the investigation, although it was unclear if any were present during the raids early Tuesday morning.
