PHOENIX — Phoenix Fire evacuated part of the Collier Center in downtown Phoenix after an envelope with a white powder was found Friday, but it was quickly determined to be not dangerous.

Capt. Rob McDade said two individuals in the Bank of America building, the largest structure of the business and retail complex, came in contact with the unknown substance and were evaluated by Phoenix firefighters.

The 20th floor, where the envelope was found, was evacuated for precautionary reasons around 11 a.m.

The Phoenix Police Bomb Squad and Phoenix Fire HazMat Team examined the powder and determined it was harmless.

Phoenix Police detectives are investigating the origins of the envelope

In addition to the Bank of America building, Collier Center is home to several prominent restaurants, including Hard Rock Cafe, Fired Pie and the Whining Pig.

It is located near Second and Washington streets.

Editor’s note: Initial reports from the Phoenix Fire Department erroneously said the incident occurred at City Hall.
