Another suspicious package found, addressed to Sen. Cory Booker

Another suspicious package addressed to a prominent Democratic lawmaker was found this week, authorities announced on Friday.

U.S. Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey was the intended recipient of the package, which was recovered in Florida and was “similar in appearance to the others,” according to the FBI.

It was the 11th suspicious package that had been sent to high-profile newsmakers, including a news network, since late Tuesday. All the intended recipients are Democrats and open critics of President Donald Trump.

It was not immediately clear what the package addressed to Booker contained. All of the other packages contained pipe bombs packed with shards of glass. The devices were made from PVC pipe and covered with black tape.

According to ABC News, the package addressed to Booker was found “at or near Opa-locka” in South Florida. Law enforcement officials are looking at a postal facility in Opa-locka, Florida, where they believe some of the packages originated.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, in an interview Thursday night with Fox News Channel, acknowledged that some of packages originated in Florida.

The New York Police Department also announced Friday that it was responding to a report of a suspicious package in Manhattan and warned people to avoid the area.

The package was reportedly headed for CNN’s New York bureau and was addressed to former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

NYPD Dep. Commissioner John Miller told reporters that “what appear(ed) to be a pipe bomb” was found inside the package, which was later safely removed.

The FBI has not confirmed whether a 12th package addressed to Clapper had been found.

Clapper told CNN on Friday that the devices were “definitely domestic terrorism” and that he was not surprised that he was allegedly one of the targets.

He described the situation as “serious,” but said it is “not going to silence the administration’s critics.”

In a Friday morning tweet, Trump argued that the news of the suspicious packages were slowing Republicans’ momentum during early voting and suggested that the reports of bombs were false.

“Republicans are doing so well in early voting, and at the polls, and now this “Bomb” stuff happens and the momentum greatly slows – news not talking politics,” Trump said.

“Very unfortunate, what is going on. Republicans, go out and vote!”

Former Vice President Joe Biden was the intended recipient of two packages that were intercepted at Delaware facilities on Thursday. Actor Robert De Niro was also the intended target of a package, but it was found by security at his New York movie production company.

Former President Barack Obama and two-time presidential candidate Hillary Clinton were mailed explosive devices disguised as packages on Wednesday.

Neither the Clintons nor the Obamas received the packages, which were intended for delivery to their homes — the Clintons in Chappaqua, New York, and the Obamas in Washington.

None had been at risk of receiving them because of screening procedures, the Secret Service said.

A bomb squad removed another device from CNN’s New York headquarters Wednesday, which was evacuated. The package was addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan.

Earlier in the week, a pipe bomb was left in the mail box of billionaire philanthropist George Soros’ New York home. Soros has donated extensively to progressive and liberal groups and candidates.

More were sent to frequent Trump critics Rep. Maxine Waters, D-California and former Attorney General Eric Holder. His ended up at the Florida office of Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who was listed as the return address.

Trump said on Wednesday that a “major federal investigation” was underway to find the source of the packages.
