Study: Arizona in the middle for politically-engaged states

PHOENIX — A recent study from Wallet Hub found that Arizona was in the middle for states and their respective political engagement.
Arizona ranked 26th out of 51 states — The District of Columbia was included — with a score of 44.09.
The study included 10 factors that ranged from “percentage of registered voters in the 2016 presidential election” to “total political contributions per adult population.”
Bordering states California and Nevada were 24th and 25th, respectively, while New Mexico was 51st.
The District of Columbia was the most politically engaged state with a score of 79.19 while Maine, Utah, Maryland and Washington rounded out the top five.
Arizona also ranked fifth in the largest percent change in electorate who voted in the 2016 election compared to the 2012 election.
Presidential election years stir up more engagement than others, according to Wallet Hub.
More than 137.5 million people voted in the 2016 election, a new record.
Only 40.2 percent of Arizona residents between the ages of 18 and 24 and 72.2 percent of Arizona older than 65 were voters.
Both of those ranked 29th.
Early ballots for the November general election have already been sent out and voting day is Nov. 6.
