PHOENIX — Children in the Valley are already in the spirit of trick-or-treating.

The Spirit of Children Program hosted a Halloween party for patients at the Cardon Children’s Medical Center on Wednesday.

The event featured arts and crafts, games and other activities for the children and their families. Children had a variety of costumes to choose from to put on display also. Patients had the ability to choose from a variety of costumes for the season.

Spirit Halloween retail stores started the Spirit of Children Program to help provide a fun environment to children during the festive season. The program has reportedly raised more than $440,000 so far for the hospital. All funds go to Child Life departments which provide developmental, educational and therapeutic support for children undergoing medical treatment.

Spirit of Children’s goal is to make hospitals less scary for kids and their families through support of the Child Life department at partner hospitals in local communities.

Since 2007, Spirit of Children has raised $45 million to provide Child Life funding for art, music, aquatic and pet therapy programs as well as the purchase of educational items and toys used for distraction during medical procedures, and much more. One-hundred percent of every dollar donated supports the Child Life Department in its 140 partner hospitals across the United States and Canada.
