Saudi warns citizens against travel to Lebanon
BEIRUT (AP) – The Saudi Press Agency says the kingdom is warning its citizens against travel to Lebanon because of instability.
Tensions in Lebanon are rising after deadly clashes linked to the conflict in neighboring Syria erupted on several occasions in the past few months. Syria and Lebanon share a complex web of political and sectarian ties and rivalries that often spill across borders.
The Saudi Press Agency quoted a Foreign Ministry official Monday as saying it was safer for Saudi citizens and their families to avoid travel to Lebanon until further notice.
The warning follows similar travel advisories issued by Gulf countries in May including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain.
