PHOENIX — Two separate car accidents in northwest and north-central Phoenix left one person dead and one person in critical condition on Monday.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department said the fatal crash near 35th and Northern avenues occurred around 6:45 p.m. when a 77-year-old woman hit a man as he was crossing the street.

The woman’s vehicle was then rear-ended by a small car. There were no injuries reported in the second crash.

The woman stayed on the scene of the accident and administered first aid to the victim. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. Impairment was not indicated to be a factor.

According to 3TV, Phoenix mayoral candidate Daniel Valenzuela was involved in the crash and administered aid to the victim.

Thompson said a 15-year-old boy was in critical but stable condition after being hit by a vehicle in the area of 19th Avenue and Camelback Road around 7 p.m.

The boy failed to stop for a red light and was hit by a 46-year-old woman driving a 2002 Volvo. The driver attempted to take “evasive action” and landed on the curb of the light rail tracks.

Neither the driver nor her two teenage passengers were injured in the crash. Impairment did not seem to be a factor in the crash.

None of the people involved in the accidents were identified.
