PHOENIX — Members of the Arizona, New Mexico and El Paso region of the Red Cross have been deployed to help those in need following devastating damage in the Gulf Coast brought on by Hurricane Michael.
The 32 members who have been deployed by the region join 75 volunteers who were already serving the Carolinas after Hurricane Florence slammed the East Coast earlier this month.
Volunteers were providing assistance in shelters, mass care feeding facilities and offering emotional support as disaster mental health professionals.
According to a release, some were used to survey the area and identify the hardest hit communities to provide supplies.
On Saturday, the death toll of the hurricane rose to 18 people.
The organization still asked for more help and that volunteers make blood and platelet donations and financial contributions.
Donations can be made by calling 1-800-Red Cross or texting the word MICHAEL to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
