NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) – Bahamian police are searching for a 52-year-old man believed to be the owner of a boat that capsized in rough seas and killed at least 11 Haitian migrants and left some 12 others missing.
A wanted poster issued Thursday says Chancelaire Baptiste is wanted for questioning about the Sunday night capsizing off the northern Bahamian island of Abaco. He is apparently a Bahamian-Haitian residing in the Abaco town of Treasure Cay.
Police earlier detained eight people in another Abaco town for questioning.
Assistant Superintendent Loretta Mackey says searchers were out again Thursday but no survivors or new bodies were found. Among those missing are several children.
Mackey says authorities are trying to tow back the capsized boat that attempted the ill-fated smuggling journey to Florida.
