MILAN (AP) – Search teams picking through the rubble of a residential building which collapsed in southern Italy Thursday after an explosion have found the bodies of an Italian-Dutch couple and their young child, police say.
Francesco Spinelli, the Carabinieri paramilitary commander in the town of Conversano in the Apulia region, said the bodies were found several hours after the blast.
Local officials have told media that a gas leak is suspected as the cause.
At least 10 people in surrounding buildings were slightly injured, including one child.
Conversano Mayor Giuseppe Lovascio told Sky 24 Italian television earlier that an Italian-Dutch family had arrived from the Netherlands two days ago on vacation and were staying in the building.
Conversano is south of the city of Bari in the region, which forms the heel of the Italian boot.
