WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) – Police say a Czech tourist hitchhiking in New Zealand was sexually assaulted and murdered by a man who then killed himself.
Police found the bodies of 31-year-old tourist Dagmar Pytlickova and 43-year-old Jason Frandi on Sunday in a remote forest. An autopsy Wednesday showed Pytlickova suffered neck injuries and Frandi self-inflicted wrist injuries.
According to Inspector Greg Williams, Pytlickova had been touring the country since January and had recently been working at a vineyard in the town of Cromwell.
He said she left Cromwell Saturday afternoon planning to hitchhike to Timaru and was picked up by Frandi, who drove her to the forest before killing her.
Frandi previously served a three-and-a-half jail sentence for abducting a woman.
