PHOENIX — Another year, another record broken for the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

The week-long golf tournament raised more then $12.2 million for Arizona charities, shattering the previous record of $10.1 million.

Carlos Sugich, the tournament chairman for this year’s event, told KTAR News 92.3 FM that the money raised will be donated to organizations including the Special Olympics of Arizona, First Tee of Phoenix, the Junior Golf Association of Arizona, St. Mary’s Food Bank and Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

“By supporting the Phoenix Open, you are indirectly supporting hundreds of local charities,” he said. “It comes in a circle. We are able to build more hospitality to bring in more sponsors.”

The Waste Management Phoenix Open was held at TPC Scottsdale from Jan. 29 to Feb. 4.

This year’s event also shattered another record, but this time for attendance. More than 719,000 people in total attended the week-long golf tournament, blowing last year’s record of 655,434 attendees out of the water.

In a day-by-day breakdown, attendance on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday also broke daily records.

“We feel so lucky to have the greatest fans in golf engaged in communities in Arizona,” Sugich said.

Tickets for next year’s tournament are already on sale.

General admission tickets go for $45 for Wednesday, Thursday or Sunday, and $60 for Friday or Saturday.

The annual PGA Tour event will be held Jan. 28-Feb. 3 at TPC Scottsdale.
