WARSAW, Poland (AP) – Poland’s interior minister says the nation will reintroduce border checks during the month-long Euro 2012 soccer tournament this summer to bar unwanted visitors.
Jacek Cichocki said Monday that border guards will be authorized to check documents of people traveling to this EU nation between June 4 and July 1. He said the checks will be random and should not hold up the traffic at crossings.
Border guards will be targeting people considered not wanted on Polish territory.
Euro 2012 kicks off June 8 with a Poland-Greece match in Warsaw. Games will also be held in three other Polish cities _ Gdansk, Poznan and Wroclaw _ and in neighboring non-EU Ukraine, where the final game will be played July 1 in Kiev.
