Apr 16, 2012, 3:21 PM

NEW YORK (AP) – Luis Andres Henao, a reporter covering economics, business and politics in Latin America, has been named a correspondent for The Associated Press in Santiago, Chile.

His appointment was announced Monday by Marjorie Miller, the AP’s editor for Latin America and the Caribbean, based in Mexico City.

“Henao will bring a terrific mix of enthusiasm and experience in financial and general news reporting to our coverage from Chile,” Miller said.

A native of Colombia, Henao, 30, has contributed to newspapers and agencies in Paraguay, El Salvador, Boston, Miami, the British Virgin Islands and Buenos Aires.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism at Boston’s Emerson College in 2006 after reporting for The Boston Globe, El Salvador’s La Prensa Grafica and Paraguay’s Diario Ultima Hora. He then interned with the Christian Science Monitor and Reuters in Boston and spent two years as a contributor in the British Virgin Islands for the Beacon newspaper and the AP.

After earning a master’s degree at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York, he wrote for The Miami Herald and Reuters in Argentina.
