PHOENIX — Between 50 to 90 million Facebook users are said to have been exposed in a recent hacking.

Facebook said it discovered hackers exploiting its “View As” feature, which allows people to see what their profiles look like to someone else.

“The bottom line is that if you try to access Facebook and it does not require to log back in, then you were basically not affected,” Ken Colburn with Data Doctors told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

Colburn went on to say, this exploitation is just another example for Facebook users to be conscious of what they are doing on the internet.

Facebook says it has taken steps to fix the security problem and alerted law enforcement.

“Don’t use the same password on all your online accounts,” Colburn said.

When it comes to Facebook there are two major tips to better protect yourself. One being, refraining from sharing your birth date online.

“I know a lot of people love having the whole world wishing them a happy birthday on their birthday. But that is a very significant piece of information that can be used against you,” Colburn added.

The second important piece that can protect you from falling victim to a hack is two factor authentication.

Colburn said the authentication tool “uses your smart phone to verify a login from a strange location.” This protects users and allows them to know if they are being hacked — that way they can shut down their page or change their password before anything gets exposed.

We want to hear from you.
