Child hit by vehicle after running into Phoenix street, police say

PHOENIX — A young child was hit by a vehicle on Monday after reportedly running into the street in the area of 40th Street and Baseline Road.
Sgt. Vince Lewis with the Phoenix Police Department said in an email that the condition of the child, who was about 8 years old, remained serious on Tuesday.
The driver, who was not identified, stayed on the scene of the crash.
Traffic restrictions were put in place at the intersection for the investigation. Police were asking drivers to avoid the area.
