PHOENIX — Tech giant Apple will open one store in the Valley and close another, mall operator Macerich said Monday.
A spokeswoman for the shopping mall owner said the Phoenix Biltmore Fashion Park store was closing and would relocate to Scottsdale Fashion Square for a grand opening Saturday. The store would begin business at 10 a.m.
The Apple page online for the Phoenix Biltmore Fashion Park location had already quietly posted the news.
Before that, the blog 9to5Mac posted last week that the Phoenix site was shutting down, noting its age (opened in 2002 and at its current site since 2008) and small size.
There hadn’t been any confirmation of the new store until the website note, but ABC15 reported that two signs with the Apple logo were hanging at the site over the weekend.
The multiple-level store has taken over the space formerly occupied by Barney’s New York, which closed in 2016.
It will join four other Apple stores in metro Phoenix malls: Chandler Fashion Center, Scottsdale Quarter, SanTan Village in Gilbert and Arrowhead in Glendale.
A sixth store is at Tucson’s La Encantada shopping center.
