BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) – Colombian authorities say they’ve captured the alleged go-between between drug traffickers operating in the country and criminal groups in Europe, including the Italian mafia.
Colombian Gen. Luis Alberto Perez told reporters that authorities had arrested Rafael Ivan Zapata on Sunday in the Colombian town of Puerto Berrio about 250 kilometers (155 miles) north of the capital of Bogota.
Perez said Italy, France, the Netherlands and Colombia were seeking Zapata’s arrest.
He said Zapata helped coordinate the shipment of drugs and trafficking routes and could be extradited. Zapata had allegedly been working with Luis Enrique and Javier Antonio Calle Serna, two of the most wanted drug traffickers in Colombia.
