DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) – A special tribunal in Bangladesh has indicted an ex-premier’s son over a 2004 grenade attack that killed 24 people at an opposition rally.
Prosecutors allege Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique Rahman masterminded the attack.
Several grenades ripped through the rally addressed by now Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She was unhurt.
A judge on Sunday said the tribunal would begin hearing witness testimony on March 28.
Zia’s opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party says the case is designed to malign Zia’s family and destroy politician Rahman’s future hopes of leading the country.
He has been living in London since 2008 and faces separate corruption charges.
Twenty-nine others including former security officials were also indicted in the case Sunday.
