PHOENIX — A 36-year-old man was killed early Friday morning after he was struck by a school bus in Apache Junction.
Richard Ochs with the Superstition Fire and Medical District told KTAR News 92.3 FM none of the approximately 10 children on board nor the bus driver were injured.
Ochs said he believed none of the students witnessed the crash. They were all removed safely from the bus and transferred to another.
The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the area of Broadway Avenue and Phelps Drive.
Capt. Arnold Freeman with the Apache Junction Police Department said bus driver turned in front of a motorcyclist when the motorcyclist slid under the bus and was killed.
Freeman said it is still too early in the investigation to determine what charges will be filed.
Both directions of Phelps Drive will be closed for the next few hours.
The school bus involved was from Apache Junction Unified School District and was carrying special-needs students, Freeman said.
The students will be offered crisis counseling.
