Pedestrian killed in Phoenix when trailer’s back wheels went on sidewalk

PHOENIX — A semi-truck with a flatbed trailer hit and killed a pedestrian on the sidewalk of a west Phoenix intersection Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
At around 1:45 p.m., the truck was turning right from eastbound Van Buren Street to southbound 35th Avenue when the rear wheels of the trailer went onto the sidewalk, a Phoenix Police Department spokesman said.
The trailer struck the unidentified 30-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The intersection was closed in both directions while the incident was being investigated.
The driver was evaluated at the scene and did not appear to be impaired, police said. Charges were pending.
