Arizona Republic reporter Craig Harris has been writing a series of hard-hitting articles on how Arizona tax dollars for education have been seemingly diverted from the classroom.
Some charter school operators, at least one of them a sitting Arizona state legislator, have made millions based on state funding.
School operators make small fortunes and teachers in these schools are paid thousands less even than poorly paid public school teachers.
“No bid” contracts can be used to siphon funds from nominally “nonprofit” entities to favored entities, often run by relatives of school operators. And all of this justified as based on the “school choice” mantra.
The Grand Canyon Institute has just issued a study on the costs to Arizona taxpayers for state subsidies of private schools.
The author of that study, David Wells, will join the Think Tank will join Craig Harris and host Mike O’Neil to discuss these and related issues.
