Russian vote webcams show partying

MOSCOW (AP) – Web cameras set up in polling stations across Russia to monitor voting in Sunday’s presidential elections revealed perhaps more than their proponents had intended.

While most live feeds broadcast scenes Saturday evening of vacant voting halls, one showed a lively retirement party, complete with toasts, while others beamed images of dancers getting down on the disco floor.

Uploaded screenshots from footage of a polling station at a school hall appear to show a clothed couple in an amorous embrace on top of a table.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who is expected to win the presidential election in the first round, first proposed installing the webcams as a way of persuading the public of the vote’s transparency.

Polling stations are commonly set up in public buildings sometimes used for social functions.
