LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) – Bolivian authorities say two local journalists have been strangled in the highlands city of El Alto.
They say killers used the same method as a gang that was recently rounded up: killing and robbing victims before dawn in small buses disguised as public transport.
Police say Veronica and Victor Hugo Penasco were killed early Saturday after leaving their home. Both worked at radio stations transmitting in the Aymara language.
Criminal police chief Felix Rocha says a preliminary report indicates both were strangled and had their cellphones and wallets taken.
Bolivian police two weeks ago announced the arrest of leaders of a gang that allegedly used minibuses to prey on people in the same manner. Police blame the gang for at least 69 killings over 13 months.
