SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) – Police in the Dominican Republic have raided the office and home of the manager of an online newspaper suspected of hacking into people’s emails.
Julio Cury is the attorney for Jose Angel Gomez, who runs elsiglo21.com. He says officers took documents, videos and computer equipment on Saturday. No one has been charged.
Prosecutors said in a brief statement that complaints from unidentified people prompted the raid. General Prosecutor Radhames Jimenez said earlier this week that the emails of First Lady Margarita Cedeno and other government officials were hacked into recently. He did not say Gomez was tied to those incidents.
The news site has been disabled as a result of the raid that began on Friday and ended early Saturday.
