SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) – Traveling by ferry just became easier for tourists visiting the popular Puerto Rico islands of Vieques and Culebra.
Officials with the Maritime Transportation Authority say a ferry capable of carrying 600 passengers is now operating to both islands. It’s the biggest ferry out of a fleet of four.
Friday’s announcement comes two weeks after the government rented another ferry to boost the number of daily trips between the islands from five to eight.
The island’s ferry system has long been plagued by delays and faulty equipment.
