PHOENIX – The Valley’s highways are no place for unsafe sax.

That was the message the Arizona Department of Transportation sent in a humorous Twitter post Wednesday.

The tweet included traffic camera images of a man playing saxophone next to his car on the shoulder of the Loop 101 Pima Freeway near Indian School Road.

“While everyone at ADOT loves an impromptu Baker Street performance, we remind our fellow art lovers that freeway shoulders are not the safest place to shred on the sax,” the tweet said.

For those of you who don’t get the “Baker Street” reference, the soft rock staple notable for its slick sax work was a 1978 hit for Gerry Rafferty.

But could it have been a different song?

Since the musical motorist wasn’t being careful, as one commenter noted, perhaps he was riffing on “Careless Whisper.”

We want to hear from you.
