EU says Congo election “not credible”
KINSHASA, Congo (AP) – The European Union has concluded that the recent presidential election in Congo, which was marked by massive logistical problems, is not credible
The observation mission said in its final report, which is being published nearly four months after the November vote, that they consider the results published by the country’s election commission to “not be credible in light of the numerous irregularities and fraud confirmed during the electoral process.”
Congo’s recent election was only the second since the country’s disastrous civil war, and it’s the first to be organized entirely by the country itself rather than by the United Nations.
The EU report comes after similar conclusions were released by the Atlanta-based Carter Center and the country’s influential Catholic Church.
