PHOENIX — Microsoft recently purchased just under 259 acres of land in Goodyear for nearly $48 million.

The land is adjacent to the Phoenix Goodyear Airport and Arizona State Route 85.

Rick West, managing partner of Carefree Partners Investments, said the amount of land sold was incorrectly reported in public record.

The investment company bought part of the land in 2003 and the second part in 2007.

“It was our intention to find someone akin to Microsoft…it wasn’t our vision that it would be Microsoft,” West told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

West said the location of the nearby airport and highways made it attractive to large companies.

“What we liked about the property is that it was contiguous and large and had a unique location,” he said.

Microsoft has yet to announce what it plans to do with the land. Goodyear officials declined to comment.

West said Microsoft has been very thorough in its investigation of the property, location and surrounding resources.

“This is an Arizona opportunity, it’s a West Valley opportunity, and it’s a Goodyear opportunity, and honestly we were blessed to be able to be the people that had the property that they were interested in,” he said.

“It’s a lot of land and it can employ a lot of people.”
