PHOENIX — Two young boys were reported missing from their home in Phoenix on Saturday following a deadly shooting, sparking a statewide Amber Alert.
The boys, identified as Victor and Jonathan Coronado Nunez, ages 8 and 5, respectively, were believed to be taken from the home near 32nd Avenue and Van Buren Street in the early hours of the morning.
Victor was about 4-feet-tall and 60 pounds, while Jonathan was 3-feet-tall and 45 pounds.
The person of interest in this case was identified as Dimas Coronado, who is the boys’ father.
An arrest warrant was issued for Coronado on Sunday morning for three counts of homicide. He is considered armed and dangerous.
Around 6 p.m. on Saturday, police said Coronado was believed to be driving an aqua green 1995 Ford F-150 truck with a Mexico license plate #ZUD7164, state of Chihuahua. It also has a white camper shell on it.
The man is believed to have fled to Mexico with the kids, said the Phoenix Police Department. The same Amber Alert is also active in Mexico.
Coronado was originally believed to be driving a 4-door Chevrolet Silverado, but it was found unoccupied around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Neither the children nor Coronado were found.
Coronado, 47, was described as a 5-foot-4 Hispanic male who has a moustache, brown eyes, brown hair and sometimes wears glasses. He weighs about 180 pounds.
The home where the boys were allegedly taken from was also the scene of an alleged double-homicide.
Phoenix police responded to a call of a possible shooting in the area of 32nd Avenue and Van Buren Street around 4:30 a.m.
Officers, once they arrived on scene, found an adult female and an adult male, both with gunshot injuries, according to Sgt. Armando Carbajal. They were pronounced dead shortly after.
The female, Oralia Nunez, was 24 years old and believed to be the boys’ mother. She was seven months pregnant at the time of the shooting.
Nunez and Coronado were married but had been estranged. Their current marital status was not clear.
Nunez’s father told the Associated Press that Coronado had a history of physically abusing her.
The male victim was Omar Gonzalez, 34. He was renting a room in Nunez’s home.
A family member told police that Nunez’s two children were with her the night before the shooting and were now missing.
