Details announced for John McCain’s memorial service in Arizona
PHOENIX — Before heading to Washington D.C., U.S. Sen. John McCain will first get a proper send-off in Arizona.
McCain will lie in state at the Arizona Capitol before being honored with a memorial service on Thursday.
The McCain family will be greeted at the Capitol Plaza by Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and first lady Angela Ducey. The private ceremony in the Rotunda will begin at 10 a.m on Wednesday. At 2 p.m., the public will be allowed to pay its respects.
A number of speakers and wreath presenters will be present for the ceremony at the state Capitol, including Ducey, Sen. Jeff Flake, Congressman James Kolbe, Sen. John Kyl and Father Edward A. Reese.
He will be the third person in the last 40 years to lie in the museum rotunda: Arizona State Sen. Marilyn Jarrett was placed there in 2006 and Olympic gold medalist Jesse Owens was in 1980.
