PHOENIX — The office of John McCain released the schedule of memorial events that will take place this week following the veteran’s death.
McCain, who was involved in politics for 35 years and made two presidential runs, died at the age of 81 on Saturday.
Former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama are expected to speak at his funeral on Saturday.
Before the procession gets to Washington, D.C., and his final resting place, Annapolis, it will make stops in Arizona.
McCain will lie at the Arizona State Capitol on Wednesday, his birthday.
After a private ceremony at 10 a.m., the public will be allowed to pay their respects from 2 to 8 p.m.
He will be the third person in the last 40 years to lie in the museum rotunda: Arizona State Senator Marilyn Jarrett was placed there in 2006 and Olympic gold medalist Jesse Owens was in 1980.
More information will be available on his website.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of U.S. Sen. John McCain is scheduled to be held in Phoenix on Thursday.
The service will take place at the North Phoenix Baptist Church at 10 a.m.
There are limited seats available and all guests are asked to be in their seats no later than 9:30 a.m.
For those not able to attend, a livestream will be available on McCain’s website.
After the service, McCain’s motorcade will head toward Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
It is expected to arrive at noon.
It will be at the 161st Air Refueling Wing, a unit of the Arizona Air National Guard, at Goldwater Air National Guard Base.
The plane will depart for Join Base Andrews, Maryland around 12:30 p.m.
This event is closed to the public.
After McCain arrives in Maryland, he will be received with ceremony by Armed Forces Body Bearers.
On Friday, McCain will lie at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The funeral ceremony is expected to be at 11 a.m.
The next day, a memorial service will take place at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. at 10 a.m. Family, friends, staff and colleagues, along with national and international leaders were invited.
This service is when Bush and Obama are expected to give eulogies.
Then, on Sunday, a private memorial service will take place at the U.S. Naval Academy Chapel in Annapolis, Maryland as McCain is put to rest.
He will be buried next to Naval Academy classmate and lifelong friend Admiral Chuck Larson.
