PHOENIX – Classes at a Scottsdale elementary school were canceled Wednesday after an early-morning fire.
Parents of Navajo Elementary School students were notified of the closure, Scottsdale Unified School District spokeswoman Nancy Norman told KTAR News 92.3 FM in an email.
The school, which teaches students through fifth grade, also reported on social media that classes were canceled.

The school will remained closed for an undetermined amount of time until the campus is deemed safe for use.
Classes for Navajo students were set to resume Thursday at the Oak Learning Academy, a former elementary school campus about 3 miles away, at 7501 E. Oak St. The school will operate from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with breakfast and lunch still available to students.
Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes said Navajo Elementary School was set to be a polling location for next week’s primary elections, but voters can now vote at the Scottsdale Congregational Church. It is across the street from the school, at 4425 N Granite Reef Road.
The Scottsdale Fire Department was investigating the cause of the blaze at the Navajo campus on the northeast corner of Granite Reef and Camelback roads, Norman said.
According to a statement released by the district, fire crews responded to an alarm at 3 a.m. and found a storage room in the school’s classroom building on fire.
Fire damage was limited to the room and a small area surrounding it, but there was smoke damage throughout the classroom building.
