PHOENIX — There’s only one city in the country that’s better for retirement than Scottsdale, according to a new study.

Thanks to a high quality of life rating, the northeast Valley suburb ranked No. 2 behind Orlando, Florida, in WalletHub’s 2018 list of best and worst places to retire, which was released this week.

The personal finance website compiled its ranking of 182 cities across 46 metrics in four main categories: affordability, activities, quality of life and health care. Each category was equally weighted.

Neighboring Tempe also did well in the rankings, checking in at No. 10.

The other Arizona cities in the rankings were No. 37 Peoria, No. 44 Gilbert, No. 47 Tucson, No. 53 Chandler, No. 69 Phoenix, No. 74 Mesa and No. 99 Glendale.

Scottsdale’s best category was qualify of life, where it ranked No. 4. The category was based on factors such as percent of population aged 65 and older, mild weather, air quality and crime rates.

Scottsdale ranked No. 1 in percentage of population 65 and older and No. 4 in mild weather.

The city ranked 26th in the activities category, 37th in health care and 78th in affordability.

Scottsdale was No. 4 in the 2017 WalletHub retirement ranking.

Earlier this year, WalletHub ranked Arizona as the 10th-best state for retirement, although a recent BankRate.com study put the state at No. 29.
