Colombian sentenced in cocaine smuggling plot

WASHINGTON (AP) – A Colombian narcotics trafficker aligned with paramilitary groups in that country has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for conspiring to import large quantities of cocaine into the U.S.

Christian Fernando Borda received the sentence in U.S. District Court in Washington on Monday.

He was also given 10 years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $6.5 million fine.

The Justice Department said the 49-year-old Borda led a major international narcotics trafficking organization.

He was convicted in 2010.
