PHOENIX — Drivers in the West Valley should expect heavier traffic on Saturday — not due to highway closures or restrictions, but because of an Arizona Cardinals preseason game in Glendale.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said drivers could expect traffic to start as early as 3 p.m., when the stadium parking lots will open.

The northbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Camelback and Bethany Home roads and southbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Glendale Avenue would be closed starting at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday before the 7 p.m. kickoff.

But that was not the only Phoenix-area freeway restriction that would take place during the Aug. 10 weekend.

The westbound U.S. 60 will be narrowed to two lanes between Rural Road and the Interstate 10 in Tempe from 8 p.m. on Sunday to 5 a.m. on Monday.

This restriction will allow crews to re-stripe the lanes, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced.

The westbound U.S. 60 ramp to the eastbound I-10, westbound U.S. 60 HOV lane ramp to westbound I-10 and eastbound I-10 off-ramp at Baseline Road will also be closed.

Drivers were encouraged to take the southbound Loop 101 to the westbound Loop 202 to access the eastbound I-10.

The northbound Loop 303 on-ramp at Thomas Road in Goodyear will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday to 9 a.m. on Saturday for barrier wall repairs.

The westbound Interstate 10 on-ramp at 43rd Avenue and off-ramp at 51st Avenue will be closed from 9 p.m. on Sunday to 5 a.m. on Monday for work on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange.

Drivers were encouraged to allow themselves extra travel time, use caution and consider alternate routes while these weekend restrictions were in place.

The closures may change depending on the weather.

We want to hear from you.
