PHOENIX — One person was injured in an officer-involved shooting with Phoenix police on Tuesday.
Officers first encountered the suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Claire Behun, during a welfare check made around 6:15 p.m. in the area of 7th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard.
Sgt. Vince Lewis, a spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department, said Behun’s father, who called police, said that she was armed with a knife and made threats to harm herself and others.
Lewis said Behun allegedly charged at an officer, who later fired his weapon. However, he said she was not struck.
Another officer used a Taser on her, which was effective, Lewis added.
Behun was then taken to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. No officers were injured.
She was later booked into jail on one count of aggravated assault on a police officer.
The shooting was the 33rd police-involved shooting in the city in 2018.
