Sales at 2 CVS pharmacies can be stopped for now

WASHINGTON (AP) – A federal appeals court has allowed the Drug Enforcement Administration to suspend for now the sale of controlled substances by two CVS pharmacies in the Orlando area.
The court lifted a temporary hold on the DEA suspension.
In a four-paragraph order the appeals court said the two CVS stores had not satisfied the stringent requirements for a temporary hold pending appeal.
In February, the DEA suspended the sale of controlled substances by the two CVS pharmacies and shipments from Cardinal Health Inc.’s Lakeland, Fla.-based center that supplied the stores.
The federal law enforcement agency says it is the first time stores in a national pharmacy chain were served with suspension orders. The suspensions stemmed from DEA looking into the stores’ strong sales of the painkiller oxycodone.
