WASHINGTON (AP) – A “super” political committee backing Newt Gingrich’s run for the White House raised more than $11 million last month.
Nearly all of Winning Our Future’s cash came from Sheldon Adelson and his wife, Miriam. Both gave $5 million each to the super PAC as it helped keep Gingrich’s struggling campaign alive.
Adelson, a Las Vegas casino magnate, is a staunch supporter of Israel and a friend of Gingrich’s.
Winning Our Future’s fundraising haul put it ahead of rival Restore Our Future’s $6.6 million in contributions last month. But that group supporting Mitt Romney has much more available cash in the bank, about $16 million compared with Winning Our Future’s $2.4 million.
