PHOENIX — A 34-year-old man who was hit by a city bus in Phoenix has died, authorities said.

Henry Rodriguez was was struck around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday as a Valley Metro bus was turning onto First Avenue near Van Buren Street downtown.

Rodriguez was crossing First Avenue against the do not walk signal, Sgt. Armando Carbajal said Thursday morning in an email.

Capt. Rob McDade with the Phoenix Fire Department said Rodriguez was taken to a trauma center in critical condition.

The investigation was continuing, Carbajal said.

Another pedestrian-involved car accident also occurred Wednesday afternoon in the area of 35th and Dunlap avenues.

The pedestrian, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Impairment did not seem to be a factor, Carbajal said.

An investigation was ongoing.
